Welcome! Initial appointments are available on weekdays. Once you have had your initial appointment with us, you are welcome take advantage of our Saturday appointment times as well!
Please show up for your first appointment with us 10-15 minutes early so we can make sure all your paperwork is in order. If your pet has been to a vet before, please have them fax or e-mail your pet's complete medical history to us (fax: 617-661-0015, e-mail: email@example.com) in advance of your appointment.
If you are a new client, we will call to confirm your appointment two days in advance. Due to the high demand for appointments from both new and existing clients, we request that first-time appointments be confirmed with a phone call. If we can't reach you within 24 hours of your initial appointment with us, we reserve the right to cancel it in order to service other clients.
For your convenience, our New Client Welcome Sheet is available online. We encourage you to complete the form at home and bring it with you to the appointment to streamline the checking in process.
Unfortunately we do not have a parking lot, but there is free 2 hour parking on Beacon Street right outside of the clinic. If you need to drop your pet off with us while you find a spot, feel free! We're happy to accommodate you.
In general, if your dog or cat is having a surgical or dental procedure with us, please keep the following in mind:
Please always feel free to call while your pet is here for a procedure-we understand that they are precious to you and we're happy to provide you with an update!
Please call us at 617-661-9553 to request a refill of your pet's medication. In general, we request one full business day to fill your prescription. A technician will call you when your medication is ready. If you wish to use an online pharmacy or have us call your prescription in to a human pharmacy near you, simply let us know.
We keep a small amount of prescription food on hand for our clients, and new stock is delivered once a week. We are happy to order the food your pet needs in advance to make sure we have your prescription in stock.
If your pet is having an emergency after hours, please consider the following emergency hospitals-they are open 24 hours a day and can see your pet without an appointment:
If your pet is having an emergency during our open hours, please call and we will advise you if you should come in to see us or go straight to emergency. We make every effort to see our clients for emergencies if possible, and the nature of the emergency will determine our recommendation.
We care for your pet in all stages of life. When appropriate, we will aid you in creating a plan to keep your pet as healthy, happy, and comfortable as possible during their senior years.
We've found the below websites to be helpful in assessing a pet's quality of life:
A scale for help with when to continue with hospice. Gives you several areas to rate on a 0-10 scale.
Daily diary you can customize from Lap of Love, a home euthanasia service.
Lap of Love also has an interactive site to help you decide on an appropriate time.
This is another 0-10 scale check list from another hospice service. This one includes you as the owner, as your happiness is also important and you shouldn't feel selfish considering that too.
From the Ohio State: another checklist on a 1-5 scale.
If you do make the decision to put your pet to sleep, you have several options available to you. We perform euthanasia for our clients in the clinic, usually at the end of the day when it is calm, but we are flexible to meet your needs. Friends and family members are welcome to attend.
We work with a cremation company called Final Gift that provides a number of options and urns, including private cremation, where your pet's ashes are returned to you. Please check their website linked above for more information. You are also welcome to take your pet's remains with you for private burial if you so wish.
You may opt to have your pet put to sleep in the comfort of your own home. We highly recommend the following house call veterinarians who provide in-home hospice care and euthanasia services:
Dr. Maija (pronounced Maya) Curtis
Dr. Becky Schoenberg
Dr. Betsy Johnson
